2011 buick Lucerne

Hanging on for what likely will be its final year in production, the 2011 Buick Lucerne returns with a choice of V-6 or V-8 engines, plus a few minor upgrades meant to tide it over while General Motors finds a suitable replacement--and cranks up production of the 2011 Chevrolt Volt at the same factory that builds the Lucerne and the Cadillac DTS.

The Lucerne Super stands out with a new bright chrome waterfall grille, front and rear fascias, integrated dual exhaust tips, rocker panels, and Super badge on the decklid. Exclusive aluminum wheels and premium all-season tires complete the look, complementing the vehicles sport-touring attitude. The Lucerne Super is available in four exterior colors: Dark Mocha Metallic, Gold Metallic, Sharkskin and White Diamond. The interior comes in Ebony or Cocoa/Shale.
The Lucerne is old-style luxury, American-style. A large front-wheel-drive sedan, the Lucerne emphasizes classic, if dated, shapes and details inside and out. The quiet, conservatively good-looking exterior is touched with abundant chrome accents, and the optional polished alloy wheels blend more bling into the recipe. The Lucernes interior is even more restrained: it wears walnut trim and nicely stitched leather seats, with sueded door panel trim in the more upscale versions.

Four different Lucerne sedans are offered. Three of them--the CX, CXL, and CXL Premium are powered by a 3.9-liter V-6 with 227 horsepower. The Lucerne  Super swaps in a 4.6-liter Northstar V-8 rated at 292 horsepower--its GMs final use of the Northstar V-8 that once catapulted Cadillac back into the global luxury segment. Both the V-6 and the V-8 have ample low-end torque, with surprising fuel economy, and either can crack off acceptable acceleration.
A stock independent suspension adds on magnetic ride control in the Super; that system uses magneto-rheological shocks that automatically adjust to minimize body roll while delivering cushy ride. Steering is pretty lifeless and theres plenty of body roll, but of course, the Lucerne tames bumps big and small even in base trim--just as a big domestic sedan should.

The hallmarks of the Lucernes interior are large seats and a quiet cabin. The traditional-looking Lucerne has vast interior space compared to pricier Japanese luxury sedans, and theres ample storage space in the cabin and trunk. The seats are wide and flat; a six-passenger model, the CX, is the only one with bench seating across the front and back, and its the only one with cloth upholstery.

Lucerne Super comes with three standard equipment packages, including Driver Confidence, Luxury and Comfort & Convenience. OnStars Directions & Connections with Turn-by-Turn voice-guided navigation, XM Satellite Radio and Harman Kardon audio system are also standard.

2011 GMC Acadia

When the GMC Acadia debuted as a full-size, three-row crossover, it aggressively invaded the territory of the GMC Yukon. Although the Yukon’s full-frame platform is stouter and therefore capable of heavier towing and hauling—whereas the unibody Acadia is comparatively light and more fuel efficient—two three-row trucks sharing a showroom are bound to share customer interest.

So it’s only natural, then, that the Acadia would poach the Denali tag from the Yukon catalog as well. According to GMC, nearly half of all Yukon sales are loaded-to-the-brim Denalis, which makes a Denali version of the Acadia full-size crossover a “logical extension.” (Guess when you’re being run by the government you try to avoid the term “no brainer.”) Like the Yukon Denali, the Acadia Denali will be showroom shorthand for “I’ll take one with everything, please,” or maybe “Give me the one the most like an Escalade.”
The 2011 Acadia has one of the most attractive exteriors in its class paired with a very nicely dressed, albeit conservative, interior. On the outside, the Acadia is perhaps the best-looking of the GM large crossovers, including the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. The more chiseled look overall--along with the prominent wheel wells--includes plenty of cues that give nod to GMCs trucks, while the slightly chunkier sheetmetal fits its role of a casual blazer--dressy, but ready to get things done. Inside, the look is simple but also very nicely trimmed--a lower, more rounded take on the upright instrument panels in GMC trucks. The dark trims and satin-metallic finishes lend a nice touch, though up close the hard plastics are a but surprising in a vehicle of this price class.

The Acadia has a single powertrain, a 288-horsepower, direct-injection V-6, and standard six-speed automatic transmission. Acceleration is strong enough, but the transmission sometimes hunts around for the right gear, especially at suburban speeds, with some powertrain hesitation in the process. The GMC Acadias optional AWD system (which can transmit as much as 65 percent of engine power to the rear wheels as necessary) is plenty for snow days, or muddy back roads on the way to the cabin, but it wont be suitable for full-on off-road adventuring. Trucklike towing capacity is there, though: up to 4,500 pounds, when properly equipped. Handling is surprisingly good for such a heavy vehicle; the Acadia has a four-wheel independent suspension and nice hydraulic-assist steering that is quite confidence-inspiring and agile overall.

But while the standard features list is impressive, the Acadia Denali is stuck with the same hard plastics found in the base model. Also annoying is a USB port that isnt where the owners manual says it should be. Hint: Its not in the center console. Look in the storage compartment on top of the dash above the center vents. Connecting your phone or iPod in the dash console is a bad idea on two levels. During the summer your MP3 player could well melt in the sun should you forget it up there. And if you decide to keep your MP3 player where you can easily grab it, youll be stuck with a USB cable draped down the center of the instrument panel. Feng Shui experts will not be pleased.

Material quality may not be an Acadia strong suit, but spaciousness is. This Denali boasts a class-leading 24.1 cubic feet of storage with all three rows in use, and 116.9 cubes with the second and third rows stowed. Thats a lot of room to haul your stuff, but what if towing is in order? The 288-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 affords you the ability to tow an impressive 5,200 pounds when equipped with the towing package. Thats more than enough grunt to pull jet skis, snowmobiles or many reasonably sized campers.

With 68,295 U.S. sales in 2010, the Acadia was the second best-selling GMC-branded vehicle behind only the Sierra pickup. Data from AutoPacific shows that the median price for this "Professional Grade" CUV was a substantial $40,000, which suggests this family wagon is a cash cow for General Motors. There was a time when a $40,000 price tag would elicit gasps from car buyers and the media alike, but nowadays, many non-luxury crossovers can crest that mark.

2011 Nissan Altima

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Nissan Altima
"Fun for the whole family!" is usually something promised by amusement parks and buffet restaurants. With few exceptions, that advertising come-on doesnt usually apply to family cars. Well, the 2011 Nissan Altima is one of those exceptions. Depending on which version they select, mom and dad will get some enjoyable driving dynamics from an Altima, all without subjecting the kids to a harsh ride or a cramped rear seat.

The Altimas fun factor depends largely on which engine you choose. The V6 version -- known as the 3.5 SR -- comes standard with a sport-tuned suspension that trades some ride comfort for sharper handling, making this Altima feel more like a sport sedan than a family sedan. The four-cylinder-powered Altimas are understandably less thrilling, though they are still more involving to drive than many rivals, thanks to the Nissans communicative steering and composed chassis. As a bonus, the Altima is also available as a coupe for those who might want sleeker styling in exchange for some practicality.

Another perk of the 2011 Nissan Altima is the availability of plenty of high-tech luxury features, such as a hard-drive-based navigation system with music storage, a rearview camera, Bluetooth streaming audio and xenon headlights. Unfortunately, those features often come bundled in expensive packages, which in some cases must be paired with other packages. This often makes it virtually impossible to pick only the options you want and skip those you deem frivolous. Another potential downside are the Altimas backseats, which arent quite as roomy as those found in the larger cars in this class. That said, most will likely find the Altimas "just right" size to be a major contributor to its relatively nimble feel.

In the final analysis, we consider the 2011 Nissan Altima to be a good choice in this very competitive segment. That said, there are many rivals worth checking out, including the well-rounded Ford Fusion, the ever popular Honda Accord, the enjoyable Mazda 6, the stylish Hyundai Sonata (and related Kia Optima) and the unknown but impressive Suzuki Kizashi. But should you ultimately choose the Nissan Altima, youll be pleased, especially if fun in a family sedan is a requirement.
Interior & Exterior Features

All Altima sedans come with a CVT that acts like an automatic transmission but delivers power like a rheostat instead of via pre-set gear ratios. Their efforts more precisely match engine speed to power needs for greater gas mileage. 2011 Altima coupes are available with a choice of the CVT or a six-speed manual transmission, regardless of engine size.

Though some praise the Altima’s sport-tuned suspension for being firm, other think it can be a little stiff. The Altima is a nimble ride overall, agile and quick. It’s sporty but family-friendly. It’s great fun to drive, so a parent doesn’t have to sacrifice performance for comfort. The V-6 hops from zero to 60 mph in just 6.6 seconds, which is very snappy for a family sedan.

Since there is less distance between the front and rear axles, the coupe is slightly easier to handle than the sedan, but the price is a stiffer ride. The base Altima with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder is as good as ever, but recent competitors have sportier models in the same price range, if not cheaper.

The Nissan Altimas length has been shortened by 2 inches from the last model, resulting in less legroom. The sedan can still hold four full-sized adults comfortably, but legroom and headroom will be at a premium. Altima uses the best materials for its class and the design is second to none. It has a unique, aggressive personality.
ENGINE

The Altima comes with two engine choices for both coupe and sedan: a 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 180 pounds-feet of torque, and a larger 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 with 258 pounds-feet of torque.  The four-cylinder is more than enough for most daily driving applications, but if you’re looking to throw a little spice into your daily driving, the powerful V6 is more than up to the task.  Transmission choices include a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission, which increases fuel efficiency.

On the road, the Altima receives ratings of 18-23 mpg in the city and 27-32 mpg on the highway, depending on your choice of engine/transmission.  For those who desire even more efficiency, there is the Altima Hybrid which is covered separately on this website.  These numbers allow the Altima to compete with other midsize cars like the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, and Hyundai Sonata.
Safety

Every Altima comes standard with antilock brakes, stability and traction control, front side airbags and side curtain airbags. In Edmunds brake testing, the Altima 3.5 with 17-inch wheels (regardless of body style) came to a stop from 60 mph in about 130 feet, a performance deemed average by our testing team.

The Nissan Altima has not been rated using the governments new, more strenuous 2011 crash testing procedures. The sedans 2010 ratings (which arent comparable to the new methodology) were a top five stars for protection in both head-on and side-impact collisions. The Altima coupe earned four stars for frontal impacts and five stars for side impacts. In the Institute for Highway Safetys frontal-offset and side crash tests, the Altima sedan received the best possible rating of "Good."
Driving Impressions

The 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 should be just fine for most folks. The four-cylinder is peppy both off the line and when passing power is needed. Our opinions are mixed on the CVT. Some of our editors like its smooth and responsive nature but others take issue with the way it makes the engine seem overly noisy and labored under hard acceleration. Four-cylinder cars also lack the sport-tuned suspension of the V6 model. A less engaging driving experience is the result, though you do get a more comfortable ride quality out of the deal, and the chassis is still sportier than the norm for this segment.

The V6 is a different matter. The CVT is well suited to the more powerful V6, and the sport-tuned suspension paired with precise steering makes the Altima a credible sport sedan. The coupe is available with a manual transmission, but despite this models intended sportiness, wed stick with the CVT, as the manual gearbox has a sudden clutch engagement and a sloppy gearshift.

2008 2011 Ford Focus SE and SES

I noticed that Ive been doing a lot of crossovers, today I will post a car for a change. Unfortunately there are still quite a lot of crossovers still to do.

Introduction: As I stated in my old Ford Focus review, it had a bit of a bad start. When Ford brought it to North America dealing with 21 recalls in its first three years, most in its early two, gave a rather negative perception to the car. Alan Mulally the CEO of Ford, decided that in order to not only rid the company of excess waste but also to improve quality with more focused global vehicles. He was going to unite Ford of America, Ford of Europe and Ford of Australia by making sure that no matter where you went the Ford lineup is pretty much the same in each country. Ford of Europe doing very well would have the most surviving models, this left Ford of America to shed much of its excess like the Mercury brand. When it came to the North American Ford Focus, since Ford was redesigning the global vehicle for the 2012 model year, it appears they decided to not import the Mk II Focus design from Europe but rather redesign the current Mk I to keep it fresh without investing too much into it.

I wasnt sure about the changes, having driven cars on the C1 platform I knew it wouldnt be as good since its still on the aging C170.

Performance: Due to the way Ford has only intended this Focus to be a stopgap for the upcoming 2012 Focus this car doesnt get any interesting engines. It still makes do with the old 2.0L Duratec you get from the previous Ford Focus. Its not entirely the same it does gain 4 hp meaning in total 140 but with the same 136 lb.ft of torque. Still the old car wasnt very slow so the new car with its newer body accelerates from 0-100 km/h in about 8.3 seconds. When it comes to noise, it can be a but buzzy but its more quiet than it used to be. Its pretty respectable even with an aging motor.

My Score: 8/10 - Very much the same engine as before, still reasonable.

Handling: Now I remembered the old Focus having a steering wheel that moved like an anvil, it never seemed like they had any power steeering. This car has changed this, while its still not the lightest wheel out there its a lot more manageable and therefore it was much easier to find out if it had any feel to it instead of getting tired and not really enjoying the drive. Taking this car around a corner it didnt seem to feel as good as I was hoping. Its competent so you shouldnt crash that easily but somehow it didnt excite me. It was a bit dull. In removing some of the crude feeling of the old system it didnt inject much life into it. The ride comfort is quite alright, its reasonable but not as cushy as you might get on softer riding cars. It also made no difference in the SES version, supposedly the sporty one which is a shame.

My Score: 7/10 - It cleans up the problems of the old system, but sadly its not very lively.

Interior: This is where I see the biggest improvement from the older car. I remembered how puny the seat levers were in the older car, this one has a proper lever. The cup holders are no longer ugly and come off with little effort. The door handles are much nicer. The stereo is better and the controls have much better touches than they used to. The seats depend on the trim level, on lower grades like the SE you get cloth and theyre alright. The SES and SEL provide leather and its a bit nicer. The SYNC system is alright to use as well. While I havent explored everything it could do, it handles most of what you need without too much complications. Nothing about the interior is luxurious but its functional and overall pretty simple. Trunk space is pretty good for its class and it was reasonable with interior space. There is something to note though, they left out the trunk release button in 2008 models, I thought I couldnt find it but when a 2009 model came out it was under the fuse box meaning they really did leave it out. Silly mistake by Ford to leave it out, at least it was rectified though. The build quality is alright, much better than before although Ive found some of the plastic covers like to come out. The Focus is made in Wayne, Michigan in the United States.

My Score: 7/10 - While not luxurious it fixes the old interiors massive problems.

Styling: This is probably the most controversial thing about this Focus. I rather liked the previous Focus, this one attempts to marry the current tri-bar Ford grille with something a bit radical. In coupe form it looks terrible especially with the spoiler. In sedan form its a bit better but I dont think the tri-bar grille worked on this design. The rear I dont think worked out either it kept some of the triangles from the older design but left the trunk with a blank space full of badges. I dont find the car very appealing, this is the redesigns biggest problem.

My Score: 3/10 - Styling didnt work out too well.

Value for money: One of the things Ford left out this time unfortunately was a Focus wagon or hatch. This design thus wont appeal to the new growing hatchback segment and must wait until the 2012 model to see if they left that intact. This is also a very fiercely competitive segment meaning it has a lot of competition to deal with even if its not an entirely new design. That said, the satellite radio being equipped starts it off ahead of the older designs out there. The new SYNC system might also intrigue some people. The styling will keep others away. The handling while not bad, its much less exciting than a Mazda and considering the SES is the sport package but makes nearly no difference that might disappoint. Its not spectacular but against its Detroit rivals its significantly better. It could have been more convincing if it were based on the European Mk II Focus, but well have to wait for the 2012 Mk III for Fords real Focus. In the end it could have been better, but for a vehicle coming from a Detroit automaker its not a bad buy.

My Score: 6/10 - Overall its not spectacular on many areas, but it doesnt exactly flounder either.

Overall: 31/50 - Its a decent car, but well have to wait for the 2012 to see what Fords really capable of in this segment.

2011 VW Jetta review test drive

At first glance, you may think this is the VW Vento, but upon closer inspection you will realise that it is the all-new Volkswagen Jetta. For a car thats making a fresh start, to be likened to its cheaper sibling cant be a good thing. But theres an upside too, VW has unified the look of all its latest-generation models. Its also easy to mistake the Jetta for the bigger and more expensive Passat, which shares the same styling lineage.
The new Jetta really looks far removed from the model it replaces. The bland, rounded shape and soft contours are replaced by crisper (but equally bland) horizontal lines. The nose is the most interesting bit of the car with its wide, horizontal grille, angular lamps and a tray-shaped splitter. The overall styling is best defined as a clean and uncluttered.
The new car has grown in every dimension; it is now 90mm longer than its predecessor and gets an extra 58mm in the wheelbase, which hints at the best-in-class interior space. Despite all the extra sheet metal, the new Jetta weighs just 25kg more than before.
Step inside the Jetta and it feels like a mini-Passat, more than a grown up Vento with top-notch plastics, and exemplary fit and finish. The chunky steering wheel feels great to hold. The steering-mounted buttons are small but have a wonderfully tactile feel. The air-con vents feel solid too and the overall heft of the dashboard and door pads reveal the durable build of the car.
The new Jetta is better specced too, but the small details that made the previous Jetta special are missing. The driver gets a 12-way power adjustable seat, including lumbar support, and finding the perfect driving position is easy. The front seats are generous but a touch flat and you get synthetic fabric instead of leather seats. The top-of-the-line Highline variant gets eight airbags, while the Trendline and Comfortline variants get six.
The most glaring oversight in the new Jetta is the missing dual-zone climate control. Instead, it gets a simple air-con unit and though its still electro-mechanically controlled, there isnt even a digital temperature readout. To make up, VW has given the Jetta other goodies like iPod connectivity, Park Distance Control with display on the central infotainment system, and daytime running headlights.
Moving to the rear, this VW has the most comfortable backseat we have seen in any Rs 15-20 lakh car. The hip-point is nice and high so you sit more relaxed, legroom is class-leading and the seat base is generous and superbly contoured. If there is a fault, its with the cushioning which is a touch too hard and the backrest thats a wee too upright. The rear seats now get an armrest and a 60:40 split. The boot capacity is a good 510-litre.
Under the hood, the 1986cc, 108bhp motor has been replaced by the 138bhp version of the same turbo-diesel engine. For the moment, VW is offering the new Jetta with just this single diesel engine which comes with six-speed manual and automatic options. There is no petrol option yet, but we understand a 1.4 TSI version is expected sometime in 2012.
The diesel motor is not the quietest of motors and though its not really intrusive you cant miss its characteristic gruffness, especially at higher revs. Theres minimal turbo-lag and we just love the strong tug you get from low revs. Performance is more than adequate and theres always a surplus of power and the swathe of torque, most of it low down in the rev range. But the DSG gearbox can make tight overtaking a tricky affair as well. Theres a huge delay in power delivery when you floor the throttle and then suddenly the car just takes off.
The way to work around this is to drive in manual mode which, apart from being good fun (the paddle-shifters feel terrific), keeps the engine in the right cog for instant overtaking. The six-speed manual is slick and precise like before but its mated to an engine that doesnt like to be revved hard.
On the twisty roads, the new Jettas safe and benign handling was immediately evident. The steering, though accurate and well weighted, is rather numb and doesnt bristle with feel. The gentle responses and the leisurely manner in which the Jetta turns into corners doesnt make it overtly sporting.
The ride is again fantastic and the Jetta dispatches bumps with ease. The suspension feels a touch more damped than before. However, on bad roads at low speeds, you can distinctly feel the underlying firmness in the suspension. But the ride is never uncomfortable.
VW has priced the base Trendline at Rs 14.12 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), but as you move up to the Highline DSG which costs Rs 3.74 lakh more, the Jetta appears a bit pricey. But, if money isnt the primary factor and what you want is a comfortable, well-built executive saloon with a bit of class, theres nothing that fits the bill as well as the new Jetta.

2011 BMW 335i

Now that BMW has replaced the twin-turbo 335i with the new twin-scroll, direct injection model, the question everyones been asking – and by everyone, we mean Bimmer fanatics – is what will happen to the outgoing N44 engine? The new N55 produces the same power and the same torque, but with a flatter curve that makes the grunt more accessible. Yet as every BMW tuner knows, the outgoing N44 has more potential. So the answer, according to reports, is BMWs plan to offer a new model dubbed the 335is.

Like the almost-an-M Z4 sDrive35is that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show last week, the new 335is is tipped to get a revised version of the twin-turbo inline-six, producing 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque (with overboost unleashing 369 lb-ft). Coupled with an M-Sport appearance package with a blacked-out grille and matching mirrors, and a choice of either six-speed manual or (for the first time outside of the M range) seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and youre looking at the hottest dreiwagen this side of an M3. The run from 0 to 60 is expected to be dispatched in five seconds flat, with a top speed limited to 149 mph instead of 130.

The best part, however, is that – according to reports and some leaked documents – the 335is is slated to launch in the North American market before being considered for anywhere else. Finally some payback for all those hot European models weve been longing for from the opposite shore.

Saturn Outlook 2011 Review

Saturn Outlook 2
Saturn Outlook 2011
Saturn Outlook 2011
As a General Motors vehicle it did very well in terms of pleasing the large SUV fan. The hope was to create enough car like distinction for the Saturn Outlook to offset its rather cumbersome appearance otherwise. With more than 100 cubic feet of cargo room the Saturn Outlook is capable of seating eight real life people comfortably. While in motion the Saturn Outlook provides a nice even, smooth ride that eludes to having a smaller vehicle. Responsiveness isn’t its strongest characteristic, but the unibody frame does help to ensure that there is enough responsiveness to drive comfortably.

The Saturn Outlook was up against the standard full size SUVs in its class, making a marked difference on the sticker price. The Saturn Outlook was offered in two trim styles and each had the same basic safety equipment. The alloy wheels, heated outside mirrors, additional rear seat climate control features, power accessories, sound system that included stereo, CD player, MP3 plug in line, and satellite radio were standard equipment of both vehicles.

the 2011 version of Saturn outlook is a cool small sized crossover vehicle, which will substitute Saturn Relay successfully. 2011 Outlook will be available in two trim levels. This new generation vehicle is very similar to GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave. Safety Features of 2011 Saturn outlook
